Making Precious Memories thru Gospel Music
SOUL PURPOSE is a music ministry featuring traditional, time-honored Hymns and Gospel songs highlighted by lively music and four-part harmony. These songs are the classics and favorites that now are seldom used in church services or other ministries. We sing them to bring back “Precious Memories” and draw those listening nearer to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
PSALMS 100: 1-2 – “MAKE A JOYFUL NOISE UNTO THE LORD…COME BEFORE HIS PRESENCE WITH SINGING.”
SOUL PURPOSE does just that by performing such favorites as How Great Thou Art, Mansion over the Hilltop, In the Garden, This Old House to name a few; songs that have and continue to minister to people’s hearts. At concerts you’ll find many singing right along with the group. We believe that the memorable words and familiar melodies inspire those listening to consider and reflect on their relationship with our Lord.
ROMANS 12:5 - “SO WE, BEING MANY, ARE ONE IN CHRIST, AND EVERY ONE MEMBERS, ONE OF ANOTHER.”
Several churches and denominations are represented within SOUL PURPOSE thus proving that we as Christians are not divided by doctrines but united through our Lord Jesus Christ. It is our goal to minister as one and to glorify Him.
Since 1994, SOUL PURPOSE has been blessed with opportunities to minister throughout Pennsylvania and surrounding states. We have performed concerts in front of thousands and ministered for several dozen. Our goal is to serve the Lord wherever He leads whether for many or few. We would welcome the opportunity to minister for your church, group or organization.
Ray Sherid is the only original member of the group which started in 1994. Singing primarily Lead, Ray will occasionally reach for that Tenor range. After graduating from Lancaster Bible College, Ray and his wife Marge formed a vocal trio and ministered together for the next ten years. After taking a few years off to adopt their daughter, Ray joined Soul Purpose. Ray owns the Manor Barber Inc. and his wife works for WDAC “The Voice of Christian Radio.” They with their daughter Brianne live in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where they attend a Christian and Missionary Alliance Church.
Dave Buchter – Dave is the little guy with “the Big Bass” voice. Dave had many years of experience singing in church choirs but his desire was to sing with a Gospel group. This became a reality when he joined Soul Purpose in 1997. Dave’s wife Janie plays a key role with the group by helping with the tape table during concerts, maintaining an inventory and updating the mailing list. Dave and Jane live in Schoeneck, Pennsylvania, and attend the Weist Memorial United Methodist Church.
Harold Martin – Harold says he is the “Dutch boy” of Soul Purpose (Dave may question that.) Having a Mennonite background, Harold has a wealth of experience singing in church choirs, with a male acappella chorus, and performing as a trio with his wife and daughter. The Lord answered his prayers when the door opened for him to become part of the ministry of Soul Purpose in 2001. Harold sings primarily Baritone but does take the Lead on several songs. His wife Joyce supports the group with her sewing skills and also helps operate the sound system. He and Joyce live in Lititz, Pennsylvania, and are active members of the Speedwell Heights Brethren in Christ Church.
Mike Rebman – Mike came to know Jesus as Savoir in 1976. God quickly led Mike out of secular music and into the Gospel music arena where he worked with several groups until 1985. After a 13-year respite to raise his children and serve in his local church, Mike returned to Gospel music in 1998, when he became a member of Soul Purpose singing tenor. Mike’s wife Sue has been the group’s sound person since 1999. They live in Ephrata, Pennsylvania where they attend the Bible Fellowship Church.
